The Power of agreement

Matthew 18:18-20 (NKJV) 18 “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. 19 “Again I say[a] to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”
The devil tries to come against agreement, because agreement is a powerful thing. Agreement means we have agreed to put our differences aside and come to together for a common cause. We won’t ever understand each other, until we abide in each other.
We know that prayer works and something happens when we move from self-centered prayers to unselfish prayers. This is the power of communing. By this we mean, “You pray for me and I’ll pray for you”.
What Matthew is talking about in the scripture above is an agreement between two persons. We must depend on our relationship not only with God, but with one another. It is important because when we have agreement intercession, and we come together, something happens.
There are some people that experience the same drama all the time. When people of God come together, we can tear Satan’s kingdom down. We got so many things like Facebook, where we can talk about nothing all day long, yet we will not talk to the person that is sitting right next to us. You have to know that when we come together, miracles happen!
Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven. Whatever we lose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
I. The authority of God’s people
God wants you to know:
1. You have dominion in the earth. – Genesis 1:16 (NKJV) says 16 Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. – Dominion is not optional. God gave you dominion over everything on the earth. Things weren’t supposed to rule over you. You were supposed to have dominion over all living things.
a. Many of you don’t realize this (your dominion), because you don’t know your spiritual inheritance. Ex- When you come to church, your Pastor is reading the will of God. He is reading God’s will regarding your inheritance. This is why the enemy tries to keep you from coming to church. Hebrews 10:25 (NKJV) says 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. – Something is about to happen, but you will miss it, because you aren’t present. Don’t allow missing church to cause you to miss your inheritance.
b. Dominion goes all the way back to the garden. We don’t need people around us that will be spiritual wimps. We need somebody that is going to stand their ground! In all other instances, everyone wants to stack their team with winners. Why then do we surround ourselves with people that are scared and have no faith? In this walk, we’ve got to have victorious people around us!
2. Heaven has your back. – Jesus says what you do here on earth will be done in also in heaven. When you pray, stuff happens.
a. You are going through battles by yourself not realizing that you have allies in heaven. We all know the story about Jesus being apprehended in the garden. Matthew 26:52 (NKJV) 52 But Jesus said to him, “Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish[a] by the sword.- Remember, Peter cuts off the soldiers ear. It is like the guy who had the small cap gun sounding pistol in the movie “Harlem nights”. He was trying to use his small pistol during a scene where people were using machine guns. In other words, this guy is pulling out something that doesn’t respond appropriately to the battle they are fighting. When Jesus hung on the cross, Heaven was just waiting for Jesus to give them the order telling them to come down and defend Jesus, but Jesus was ok with God’s will for his life. Just like the guy in Harlem Nights, Peter was not responding appropriately to the battle that Jesus was fighting. Peter didn’t have to defend Jesus, because Jesus needed to go through this. It was necessary. You need people around you that won’t interrupt what you and God have an agreement over.
II. The agreement of prayer
1. Beware:
a. Everybody can’t touch you in prayer. – It takes people that knows you and who are connected with you for prayer to work. James 5:14-15 (NKJV) says 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. – The word Elder in this passage comes from a Greek word that means, the elder of age. It has nothing to do with the office of being an Elder. It is simply somebody that has life experiences. You need somebody connected to heaven when you pray together. When you are in a deep situation, you can’t depend on a novice to pray for you. You need somebody that is not rookie trying to connect to heaven. In your mind, you need to be asking questions like, have you been through some stuff? Have you been on your face regarding God?
b. Lots of people have the title of intercession, but no experience.. They really don’t have the connection that it takes to get results from heaven. Everyone that touches you, doesn’t necessarily agree with you. Everyone that is close to you, is not cheering for you. They aren’t praying for you, they are preying on you.
2. Be careful of:
a. Fake people. – Be careful of people that speak to you in church and who won’t speak to you outside of the church.
b. Filthy people. – If you can transfer viruses, then know that you can also transfer spirits.
c. Faithless people. – Something happens when faithful people come together in prayer.
I. 2 Chronicles 20:1-13 (NKJV) says 20 It happened after this that the people of Moab with the people of Ammon, and others with them besides the Ammonites,[a] came to battle against Jehoshaphat. 2 Then some came and told Jehoshaphat, saying, “A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea, from Syria;[b] and they are in Hazazon Tamar” (which is En Gedi). 3 And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. 4 So Judah gathered together to ask help from the Lord; and from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord. 5 Then Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, before the new court, 6 and said: “O Lord God of our fathers, are You not God in heaven, and do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations, and in Your hand is there not power and might, so that no one is able to withstand You? 7 Are You not our God, who drove out the inhabitants of this land before Your people Israel, and gave it to the descendants of Abraham Your friend forever? 8 And they dwell in it, and have built You a sanctuary in it for Your name, saying, 9 ‘If disaster comes upon us—sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine—we will stand before this temple and in Your presence (for Your name is in this temple), and cry out to You in our affliction, and You will hear and save.’ 10 And now, here are the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir—whom You would not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them and did not destroy them— 11 here they are, rewarding us by coming to throw us out of Your possession which You have given us to inherit. 12 O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.”13 Now all Judah, with their little ones, their wives, and their children, stood before the Lord. – Here Josephat called for a corporate prayer.
II. 1 John 5:15 (NKJV) 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.- When you pray together in God’s will, it will happen. When Paul and Silas prayed together in prison, things came together.
3. The reason you are still here today, is because somebody prayed for you.
III. The affirmation of his presence
Prayer alone can bring the answer. Agreement (prayer) can bring the answer down.
a. We have to know that it’s about Him and not about us. – Lift his name, and you might see a break through. We come together, because we are expecting something to happen. Psalm 22:3 (NKJV) says 3 But You are holy, Enthroned in the praises of Israel.- When we gather together, it is to give God the glory.
i. Too often, we try to make our name great. God will not share his glory with anybody. When we gather, we don’t gather in the name of our church or our Pastor, you come together in His name.
b. Your problem and His presence can’t occupy the same space. God doesn’t dwell with confusion. He dwells in peace. Where there is agreement, God show up. Jeremiah 32:17 (NKJV) 17 ‘Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You.- Often, we blow our problems out of perspective. Ex – There was a story told about a woman drowning. She called desperately for help and finally somebody showed up. When they swam out to rescue her that told her to try and stand. As it turns out, the water was only 3 feet deep. All the woman had to do was stand up, but from her perspective, she was drowning.
i. Just like the woman drowning found out, things that appear to be out of control, come into perspective when God shows up. She thought she was drowning and that her life was coming to an end, but then they stood her up, and then she noticed that she was only in 3 feet of water. When God shows up, things that appear to be out of control, come into perspective.
ii. When God enters the room, he sucks the life right out of your problems. Stop handing your oxygen mask to your problems. Whatever problem exists, has to exit when God shows up. That is what intercession and agreement looks like.
IV. In Conclusion
The main thing you’ve got to remember is that God will connect you with things and people that will open doors for you and grant you access until the time comes for him to bring about your elevation!
